York was once the biggest Viking city in Britain; now it hosts the Jorvik Viking Centre and the Jorvik Viking Festival. Check out the festival's website:

As you know, York was flooded around Christmas; while things are much better now, almost back to normal, not all is well. 600 homes and businesses were badly damaged, and much of the disaster was due to bad decisions. Today's Guardian  features an article worth reading:
